Reel Passion Shows Its Passion by Winning South Carolina's 23rd Edisto Marina Governor's Cup

Posted in: Tournaments

The crew of The Crystal Blue all had our game faces on. This was a last day of the tournament and we were serious about catching some fish! We decided to go South considering our previous fishing day on Thursday and eliminating our Northern bound options through trial and error. We came across some cooler waters and the beautiful blue waters that you find with the Gulf Stream currents running through the Atlantic. Signs of life were everywhere with flying fish the size of a small mouth bass.  ...Read More

Full Pull Wins the Megadock Billfish Tournament in Charleston SC

Posted in: Tournaments

The 2011 Megadock Billfish Series was one to remember. I was fishing The Ballistic, a 58- foot Viking owned by Hutch Holesberg, President of Key West Boats. We woke up early at 3:30 am to discover that the conditions were not favorable for any of us and it was supposed to be our alternate fishing day. At 3:45 am the fishing day was called off due to a small craft advisory. Not a good feelling! I remained in my cabin, sucking my thumb and rocked myself back to sleep. "There is no crying in fishing," I said to myself. That happened to be the case for somewhere in the neighborhood of 26 boats. We were stuck at the dock, sulking a little, but picked ourselves up by our boot straps and celebrated at the awards ceremony for the ones who deserved the win and that happened to Full Pull....Read More

Megadock Billfish 2nd Day "Size Doesn't Always Matter"

Posted in: Tournaments

Well this has been an interesting 2nd day of the Megadock Billfish Tournament. Changes in the leader board took place today as expected. What was not expected was for a 33' Freeman Catamaran to reak so much havoc amongst all these larger vessels. Gotta love a CAT in turbulent waters. "Frenzy" Captained by Trey Sires took the place of Artemis in 4th place billfish, battled the rough seas today and came home with 4 tagged and released sailfish. With 25's and 30 TLD's this experienced crew of five did an amazing job and took 4th on the leader board with a total of 4 sails today....Read More

First Day of Fishing The Megadock Billfish Tournament

Posted in: Tournaments

The first day of fishing The Megadock Billfish Tournament began at 4:30 a.m. for most of us. I am fishing "The Ballistic," as the Lady Angler on a 58' foot Viking owned by Hutch Holseberg, President of Key West Boats and an interesting crew of 10. We are on a mission to catch a "BIG BLUE" and are rigged up solely for that catch with 50's and 130's. Hutch's mentality is to "go big or not at all!" We are being Captained by one of the best, Jimmy McCormic, a long time veteran of these waters, and Hutch's fishing partner for 15 years. They have competed in Billfish tournaments throughout St. Thomas and the Bahamas and have been crew mates in Guatemala and Venezuela....Read More

Registration Begins for The Megadock with Lowcountry Flair

Posted in: Tournaments

The first day of registration began for the Governor's Cup Billfish Series Megadock Tournament in Charleston, SC today. The Megadock is located in the heart of Historic Downtown Charleston with gorgeous views of The Cooper River Bridge. We had 48 registrants with 22 new registrants this year. The Variety Restaurant which is nestled right in the midst of the docking area was extremely hospitable at lunch time and served me a whole fried flounder with Jamaican Relish, collard greens, red rice and hush puppies that was to die for! Nothing like down home Charleston cooking....Read More
